"Empowering you with the best access to scientific knowledge"

Overview:
Our vision is to accelerate research through open access to all peer-reviewed science by: 1) replacing multiple overpriced academic search-engine databases with a single, free solution; 2) improving academic search with our Webline solution.

The Problem:
Current academic search engines are costly, unwieldy gateways to scientific research. These databases run between $5,000 and $200,000 a year for small colleges in the US, with each needing to purchase over 100 databases. These million dollar costs increase significantly for large universities and are estimated to rise at an average 10% a year.

The Solution:
The Open Access Movement has built a strong base of support for tools designed to solve this problem. Unfortunately, their best efforts focus only on search engines which fall short of a real solution. At JournalWiki we have four key solutions which give scientists utility and value they will not find elsewhere:

•UNIFIED DATABASE: JournalWiki is not just a search engine, but a single home for all peer-reviewed research. Universities no longer need to manage 100+ search-engine databases.

•WEBLINES: This new technology is our key advantage. These social outlines replace search engines as the main gateway to peer-reviewed articles by crowdsourcing journal organization to the experts.

•SOCIAL MEDIA: The Open Access Movement is motivated. JournalWiki gives this community the tools to mobilize. Use of the latest social media technologies gives academics proven organizational tools.

•WE'RE A WIKI: Self-archiving is the future of research distribution. We provide a unified location for this scholarly work. The social labor of academics and the dream of accessible science drives our site.

Profit vs. Integrity: We provide these tools to universities and academics for free. This is accomplished by keeping operating costs low and utilizing the well established revenue models of social media:

•OPEN SOURCE DESIGN: JournalWiki uses the best open-source web design and crowd sourcing in order to bring to market a high quality product at the lowest possible cost.

•ADVERTISEMENT: Each Webline will be summarized with a consensus statement designed to drive general web searches to JournalWiki's database. By utilizing proven SEO methods to increase search rank, our massive database will drive advertisement revenue and keep services free.

•SCIENTIFIC INTEGRITY: Academics who log in are able to use our tools and contribute to the community in an advertisement free environment. This helps maintain JournalWiki's academic integrity without the huge access costs of other databases. Our profits are driven by usability, not by convincing university administrators to purchase our product. This means our #1 focus is the user.

Hello Santyllan and Rodhesia, thank you for your support. We have come up with some great Ideas for making this a reality. We have also meet some big challenges. Comments like Rodhesia's is why we keep working on this. If we get it right, we will be able to greatly improve the scientific process, and make it easier for students to engage good science.
